We reached Fort Williams yesterday after yet another windy and rainy day.
The first day after Rowardennan was damn hard, we had to walk 20km in pouring rain, the only good thing was a boothy after 15km with a fire already buring. Two boys were staying there for a couple of days. After about an hour drying up we continued to Inverarnan put up the tent in the rain and I got drunk in the pub
Second day was slightly better wetter but still a lot of rain, Ute twisted her ankle after ~8km and we thought about staying in Crianlarich (after 10km) but she managed to continue to Tyndrum (20km). We had to stay at a B&B because everything was wet
Next day was MUCH better, only a little bit of rain and we did see the sun a couple of times. Our planned destination was Bridge of Orchy(10km) but the bunkhouses were full and the wild campsite didn’t look good so we added another 5km and stayed at another wild campsite which was great, a nice view over the hills, beside a small stream…(pictures soon too come).
Fourth day was ok, too. Easy walking and ok weather. Another wild campsite behind the Kings House hotel after 15km.
On the fifth day we climb Devil’s Staircase (way overrated, more like a minor daemon’s steps) but the way down to Kinlochleven was taxing… Stayed at MacDonald’s Campsite in Kinlochleven, very nice campsite.
Last day was damn hard again, lot’s of rain and very strong winds. Ute twisted her ankle again but could continue. Again the way down from the last pass to the Glen Nevis Youth hostel was pretty hard, we checked in, left our stuff and finished the last 4km of the WHW.
Now my feet are hurting and I won’t leave the YH today
Well sounds like you are having fun
The sun is shining but it’s still terribly cold here. Plus: Yesterday they tested – without warning! – how cool they could get the offices to be in Summer. I nearly froze to death
Congratulations, I would never make it to the end (not even without luggage)!
@sonja: Don’t complain. My new office (an old one again) does not have air conditioning at all….
No, that’s no fun anymore and thanks Uli.
After a day of rest we are thinking about going up Ben Nevis but it looks as if the weather won’t cooperate. The cloud cover is really low (I guess 600-700m) and it’s constantly raining. Let’s wait and see if it improves later… Otherwise we will do some walking in Glen Nevis.
The weather remained bad but we headed up Ben Nevis anyway. Around 500m is a small lake with the cloud base around that high. We continued for a few meters but decided to turn around, because it was no fun walking in the fog with visibility down to ~10m.
