According to an article by wired Apple added a special feature to their sexy metallic keyboards: accidental touches won’t activate caps lock. It’s the first step in a process to remove this useless and annoying key from all keyboards.
I’ve remove my caps-lock key from a couple of keyboards already. But I did not know that a campaign called anticAPSLOCK existed which tries to ban caps-lock from future keyboards. Nice idea!
Just change the behavior of caps lock to be a ctrl key. Works on OS X, *nix and even that other OS.
yeah, I know. But I still think it’s wasted space which could be used for a more useful key.
I too turned my Caps Lock into a Control key in System Preferences, and haven’t looked back. For reducing risk of the horrible injury known as “Emacs Pinky”, Control *is* a useful key to have there. Even using TextMate lately, I still use CTRL+p/n/f/b/a/e or CTRL+s all the time (throughout Cocoa apps really, except for that last one).
