Yet another social bookmark manager
by Frank Spychalski filed under Computer, Fun

I got a comment which invited me to have a look at igooi.com. I did. I created an account and played around for a few minutes. I think the service is ok, but I miss the reason why I should switch. More important, I won’t spend time to enter all my bookmarks again, just to toy around with it some more. Dear Jason, if you want your project to succeed, listen to Joel, make it easy for users like me to switch from del.icio.us or furl to your service and back.

I didn’t want to go too much into the details when I first wrote this post, but now that you mention it:

Method 1: Import any page with URL in it

is a rather fuzzy description. Do I have to add tags later? Can it import bookmark files? Will it preserve the information I entered there?

Method 2: Import From a standard RSS Feed

is indescriptive, too. Ok, I guessed I could import from my del.icio.us rss feed, entered the URL, but now my tags and descriptions are gone.

Don’t get me wrong. I think you are doing a pretty good job, but I wouldn’t spend a lot of time to get somewhere I already am with del.icio.us…

Thank you for coming for the trying. I appreicate it.

In fact, igooi does have a good import tool, user can either import from a file with URL in it or import from a standard RSS feed. :-)

I am focusing on doing something different. For example, the comment feature. If the page has a standard trackback, a trackback with the comment will created for the source site too. (It seems this site does not have trackback information in standard RDF format so it is not created for this page. However, you can still see it from:

Well, I am not thinking too much about switch users from del.icio.us or furl to my service yet. Building something different which is useful to user is my focus. :-)

Keep me up to date about any new features. Right now I’m a fan of del.icio.us but that doesn’t mean that there could be a superior tool…

Thanks for trying. I am very happy to see the feedbacks.

Regarding the import feature, just like you said, it is not perfect. In fact, I can implement a prefect import feature to import everything from similar site like del.icio.us, furl, etc. It is just a simple coding, not new idea.

Well, I was a fan of del.icio.us too. As i said in my blog http://blog.igooi.com, I build igooi simplily because del.icio.us did not meet my requirements. I am implementing new idea & new feature with igooi. I am not trying to convince you to change, but if you want to seek something different & interneting, igooi will be one of them.
