I stored some links to local files in my online bookmark manager but when I tried to use them, Firefox wouldn’t follow the links. Obviously there was some kind of security concern involved but I know want to follow links to local files no matter what. There is a way to disable these checks and here’s a description how to turn these checks of, just change the value of security.checkloaduri in about:config from true to false.
Things changed in Firefox 1.5 here is the solution for 1.5.
