I grew bored with the default look of kopete and installed a few new themes. It’s really simple:
- Settings->Configure
- Appearance
- Chat Window
Now you have reached the screen where you can choose the theme you would like to use with a preview showing how the new theme will look.
But first you have to install a new theme. To do this, click on Get new… and wait a few seconds for a list of available themes to pop up. Select one you like and click on install to automatically download and install the new theme. Most themes come with multiple variants. These variants use slightly different colors or change the size of the icons. If you like a theme but think it’s too bright or too dark, check if there is another variant more to your liking.
I would recommend you try at least these three themes:

I would also recommend pushpin.

Well, it’s just an Adium port, rather than an original but it’s quite cool (and occasionally slow).
Luke, I tried Pushpin and I think it is one of the best looking themes for kopete out there. But in my opinion it’s a little bit too fancy. If you have a lot of short messages going back and forth, the theme adds a lot of visual noise – which I found distracting.
